Lead Data Scientist

Job description

​A rapidly growing financial services organization is seeking an experienced Data Science Leader to build and scale its AI capabilities. The successful candidate will develop advanced predictive models, design innovative GenAI and multi-modal AI solutions, and work with large datasets to deliver meaningful insights.

The role involves collaborating closely with business teams, presenting findings to diverse stakeholders, and acting as a subject-matter expert across markets. You will also mentor junior data scientists and ensure analytics and AI initiatives drive measurable business impact.

💼 What You’ll Do
  • Design, develop, and validate statistical and machine learning models (mortality, morbidity, persistency, fraud, etc.)

  • Prepare and organise large datasets; conduct exploratory analysis, hypothesis testing, and data visualisation

  • Build cutting-edge AI and GenAI solutions (LLMs, multi-modal AI, agentic AI) to solve business problems

  • Collaborate with business and client-facing teams to translate challenges into data science solutions

  • Present insights and analytical results clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Research new data sources and emerging AI technologies; assess use cases across the Life Insurance value chain

  • Act as a subject-matter expert across local offices in data science, analytics, and AI

  • Coach and mentor junior data scientists to support team goals

 

✔ What you bring
  • 10+ years of experience in data analytics, statistical modelling, and research in Life & Health insurance

  • Strong expertise in ML/AI, including GLMs, deep learning, time series, clustering, and MLOps

  • Hands-on experience with GenAI development (prompt engineering, RAG, LLM evaluation, LangChain, HuggingFace, OpenAI/Bedrock APIs)

  • Advanced programming skills in Python or R, plus strong data engineering and database experience

  • Deep knowledge of actuarial concepts and insurance products

  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams

  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese

  • Advanced degree preferred (Master’s/PhD in Math, Stats, Actuarial Science, Economics, etc.)

 

💰 Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: ¥20M–¥25M annually (based on experience) + bonus

  • 22 days annual leave, comprehensive medical insurance
