Head of PMO

Job description

​A leading bank is seeking an experienced Project Management Portfolio Head is responsible to manage, design, and deliver the strategic building blocks of the Bank’s project delivery capability. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving standards of excellence across the organisation’s project portfolio, overseeing program/project management services, and ensuring successful management of projects. The PM Head establishes and implements testing strategies, develops a high-performing project management team, and provides project management and PMO services.

 Your Role 
  • Lead the design and establishment of the project management office (PMO), aligning it with PMI guidelines and quality standards, and integrating it as a central function within program/project delivery at the bank.

  • Continuously manage and enhance the PMO, ensuring the bank possesses the necessary project management capabilities to deliver large complex projects across internal operations and strategic implementation.

  • Drive capacity building initiatives to strengthen project management capabilities across the organization.

  • Lead the ongoing development of bank’s project management model and toolkit, governing program and portfolio management processes, and ensuring alignment with policies and metrics.

  • Establish a consistent approach to oversight and performance reporting of projects, implementing and governing program management processes, tools, templates, policies, and metrics.

  • Maintain oversight of live projects, providing regular performance reports to senior management and stakeholders, and liaising with executives to define project priorities and communicate risks and opportunities.

  • Line manage a central pool of project managers, overseeing recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and mentoring activities.

  • Plan and deploy project managers to projects, collaborating with colleagues across the bank to understand project management support needs.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across teams to embed robust project management principles in key processes and act as a project management coach and advisor.

  • Drive continuous improvement within the bank, working closely with organizational change teams to mobilize and embed functional and cultural change initiatives.

  • Seek implementation efficiencies to meet or exceed financial expectations established at project initiation.

  • Set annual performance targets for direct reports, conduct performance reviews, and oversee project managers to ensure projects/programs are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

  • Provide executive leaders with the necessary information to assess and prioritize proposals based on potential value, impact, and strategic alignment.

  • Identify project, program, and portfolio priorities, address challenges, and effectively communicate project risks and opportunities.

  • Champion the adoption of Agile/Scrum methodologies and drive the bank towards an Agile/Scrum approach in project delivery.

Requirements
  • 10-15 years of experience in Program/Project delivery roles, with several years in senior management roles within a banking environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; MBA or other advanced business administration degree preferred.
