Senior Windows Engineer
Job description
We are partnering with a leading global organisation to hire a Senior Windows Engineer to provide technical leadership across enterprise Microsoft platforms and core infrastructure services. As a Senior Windows Engineer, you will help maintain secure, reliable, and scalable Windows environments while leading platform upgrades, operational improvements, and automation initiatives in a complex, regulated setting
This is a senior hands-on infrastructure role for a windows infrastructure engineering lead who enjoys solving complex technical issues, shaping platform standards, and working across operations, cyber security, cloud, and application teams.
Responsibilities
Lead the technical direction, stability, and ongoing improvement of enterprise Windows infrastructure and associated core platform services
Act as the senior technical escalation point for complex production issues, coordinating recovery activities and driving permanent fixes for recurring problems
Plan and deliver infrastructure refreshes, major upgrades, migration activities, and lifecycle initiatives across Windows-based platforms
Establish practical operational standards covering change controls, patch management, backup, recovery testing, vulnerability remediation, and service performance
Work with internal teams and external service partners to improve support quality, documentation, automation, and day-to-day platform reliability
Develop automation using scripting and configuration-management tools to reduce manual work, improve consistency, and speed up operational delivery
Partner with security and risk stakeholders to strengthen identity controls, privileged access practices, and secure administration across Windows services
Requirements
Significant experience as a Senior Windows Engineer, Windows Server Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Infrastructure Operations Lead within a large enterprise environment
Deep knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, PKI, endpoint or server management tooling, and enterprise monitoring solutions
Strong experience supporting virtualised infrastructure and related technologies, including VMware, Nutanix, Citrix, clustering, storage, and recovery capabilities
Proven track record in Windows platform upgrades, migrations, production support, major incident response, and infrastructure lifecycle management
Hands-on scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Ansible, or similar tools; experience with ITSM platforms and public cloud services is beneficial
Strong stakeholder and vendor-management skills, with the confidence to guide technical teams, influence service partners, and communicate clearly during critical events
