Director Data Scientist

Job description

​An exciting opportunity to lead to lead the delivery of transformative AI and GenAI solutions for some of the world's largest Telecommunications and Financial Services organisations. This is not a sales role but a technical delivery role working with business stakeholders to understand their problems and deliver AI solutions.
This is a leadership role responsible for driving AI strategy, leading high-performing data science teams, developing executive relationships, and growing a market-leading AI consulting practice.
You will work closely with C-suite executives to identify high-value AI opportunities, shape enterprise AI roadmaps, and oversee the delivery of complex machine learning and Generative AI programmes that deliver measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

AI & Data Science Leadership

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Data Engineers and AI Architects.

  • Design and oversee enterprise-scale machine learning and Generative AI solutions from ideation through production.

  • Ensure adoption of best practices across:

  • Machine Learning

  • Deep Learning

  • LLMs

  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)

  • AI Agents

  • Prompt Engineering

  • MLOps

  • Responsible AI

  • Model Governance

  • Guide architecture decisions across cloud AI platforms and modern AI ecosystems.


Industry Expertise

Develop AI solutions within either:

Telecommunications

  • Customer Value Management

  • Churn Prediction

  • Next Best Action

  • Network Analytics

  • Customer Experience

  • Personalisation

  • Revenue Optimisation

OR

Financial Services

  • Fraud Detection

  • Credit Risk

  • Customer Analytics

  • Wealth Management

  • Insurance Analytics

  • AML

  • Personalisation

  • Intelligent Operations

Practice Development

  • Mentor and develop senior data scientists and technical leaders.

  • Define AI delivery methodologies and reusable accelerators.

  • Establish technical standards across AI and GenAI engagements.

  • Recruit and grow world-class AI talent.


Required Experience

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or related quantitative discipline.

  • 12–15+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence.

  • Minimum 5 years leading enterprise AI consulting engagements.

  • Proven experience delivering AI programmes for large Telecommunications or Financial Services organisations.

  • Demonstrated experience managing large consulting teams and complex client engagements.

  • Experience presenting to executive leadership and Boards.

  • Strong commercial mindset with experience supporting business development and revenue growth.
