What I’m Seeing in the Senior Tech Hiring Market in PH (Banking & Financial Services)
Sharing some quick thoughts based on what I’ve been seeing lately in the senior tech hiring space here in the Philippines, especially within banking and financial services.
Senior tech hiring has definitely become more competitive—not just for candidates, but also for employers.
Roles like Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Heads of Engineering, Solution Architects, Cloud Architects, Platform Leads, Security Leaders and Technology Directors are all in high demand right now. And the expectations have shifted. It’s no longer just about strong technical background. Companies are really looking for people who can combine technical depth with leadership, delivery ownership, stakeholder management and regulatory awareness.
In banking especially, senior hires are expected to do a lot more than just “lead teams” or “design systems.” They’re expected to drive transformation, modernize legacy platforms, ensure security and compliance, and still deliver stable systems in a highly controlled environment.
Another clear trend is how global the benchmark has become. A lot of senior candidates in the PH market today have exposure to regional or international teams, so salary expectations are now being influenced by Singapore, Hong Kong, and remote global roles—not just local benchmarks anymore. That naturally raises the competition.
What stands out as well is how fast the market is moving on the candidate side.
Good senior tech talent doesn’t stay available for long. If the hiring process is slow, unclear, or overly layered, there’s a high chance they’ll move on—even if the role itself is strong. Speed and clarity are becoming just as important as compensation.
On the flip side, financial institutions are still operating within structured approval and governance processes (which is understandable given the industry). But that gap between fast-moving candidates and structured hiring cycles is where a lot of strong talent is being lost.
Another shift I’m seeing is how candidates are interviewing differently now. Senior professionals are asking more pointed questions—not just about salary, but about architecture direction, team maturity, leadership style, transformation roadmap and long-term impact. It’s less transactional and more strategic.
From where I sit, hiring senior tech talent in PH right now is not just about filling roles. It’s about how well companies position the opportunity, how fast they move, and how clearly they define what success looks like in the role.
The talent is definitely there—but competition is real, and expectations have evolved.
In most cases, the strongest offers don’t always win. The strongest hiring experience does.
